Men Choosing Non-Violence

The Mission

To work toward ending domestic violence by giving male voice to gender equality and teaching ethical social norms to future generations.

Begining in the summer of 2006, a core group of men began dialogue on how they could engage the male community members to stand up and speak our against domestic violence. In October of 2006, an evening workshop was held to raising awareness about the dynamics of domestic violence and the incidence level in Allen County. Fifity-three individuals came together to reflect on this national, stae, local epidemic.

From the October event, discussion points were raised that the MCNV group will begin addressing in group conversation format. Focus groups at Ohio State University Lima and at Allen Correctional Institution have participating in lively and informative discussing over four-week, one-hour sessions.Other projects are being develped to continue this work, including a media campaign and a community fundraiser for both the prevention of future domestic violence crimes as well as intervention and treatment for those victimized.

Plans are being made for a similar event to take place here in Allen County in October 2010. To see and learn more as it develops go to this site to learn more:
